Well, we spent most of the day lounging. Had planned to drive into Marathon and poke around but that never happened. We’re just enjoying the idea of taking it slow and easy. Other then Jewel’s walks we never did get out to explore more of the park until 3 pm.
The sun was bright but the air really cool for this time of year. Everyone keeps talking about the cold front that is sitting over us but we love the fact that there is no humidity. So far, the only day we had to use the AC in the MH was the day we arrived. We have been able to keep the windows open and the weather has been great for sleeping.
We checked out the museum in the park, but that didn’t take too long then headed to the beach for a walk. There weren’t too many people people on the beach, mostly just us and the birds. The sea has been rough so a lot of seaweed has been washed ashore.
After we did our walk around we went back to take Jewel for another walk. We can only take her to certain places so unfortunately have had to leave her home when we go out exploring. On our walk we met some interesting people who travel with a pink plastic Flamingo and pink plastic chair. Betsy, the Flamingo has traveled the country and is an honorary Park Ranger! The couple that own Betsy call her their child. OK then!!!! We sure do get to meet some very interesting people.
We decided we would go to Boondocks to watch the Super Bowl. On the way we stopped at another CG down the road to see if we could extend our stay in the Keys. Unfortunately, the CG was a dog free CG because of the Key Deer on the island. Key deer are specific to that island and are an endangered species. The speed limit on the roads through Pine Key are 35 miles per hour to protect the deer from speeding vehicles. We did get to see a couple of the cute little Key deer when they were crossing a side street. They look like fawns but are full grown. We did see one of these little guys with antlers but didn’t get a chance to get a picture.
Once we figured we couldn’t get an extension at the CG we headed to Boondocks to watch the Super Bowl. Ron and I were rooting for SF but figured the Ravens just might win. The majority of the people at Boondocks were cheering on the Ravens. When we arrived the place was not crowed but filled up quickly. We had a good table with an unobstructed view of the TV. We stayed until the stadium blackout and the game looked like the Ravens were going to blow-out the 49ers. When we got Back to the MH Ron fired up the computer and began streaming the game. We were surprised to see that the 49ers had picked up some points improving there chances of winning. Well, the rest is history and the Ravens managed to win but by only three points. They played an incredible game and deserved the win.!!!! I’m sure all the Ravens fans are ecstatic.
The plan for Monday – to return to Key West and do tourist attractions. The weather has still been great , so no issues with that. Looking forward to our day in Key West.
